MEET SANDY

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to understand people.

I’m Sandy Kaminski — an HR executive, founder of HR Maxim, and lifelong observer of why people do the things they do.

My career has been spent inside organizations, helping leaders and employees navigate the complicated parts of working with humans. My life has given me plenty of experience with the complicated parts outside of work, too.

I don’t have all the answers. I’m not particularly interested in pretending I do.

What I am interested in is asking better questions, having the conversations people usually avoid, and pulling at the threads until things make a little more sense.

Sandy Kaminski, creator and host of People Untangled.

HOW I GOT HERE

Turns out, work was never just about work.

I’ve spent most of my career in HR — sitting across from people during some of the best, worst, and most complicated moments of their working lives.

I’ve worked with executives trying to lead. Employees trying to be heard. Business owners trying to figure out what the hell to do next. I’ve watched great people make terrible decisions and difficult people teach surprisingly valuable lessons.

And somewhere along the way, I realized the conversations happening at work weren’t all that different from the ones happening everywhere else.

People want to feel understood. We avoid conversations we know we need to have. We stay too long. Leave too soon. Second-guess ourselves. Misread each other. Repeat patterns. Try to make sense of things that sometimes make absolutely no sense.

Life has given me my own share of those moments, too.

Some wonderful. Some painful. Some that changed me completely.

And through all of it, I’ve become less interested in having the right answer and much more interested in asking the question that gets us closer to one.

And that’s how I got here.

WHY PEOPLE UNTANGLED

Because the conversations we need most are usually the ones we’re not having.

Somewhere between work and life, we got really good at pretending everything fits into neat little boxes.

It doesn’t.

The difficult conversation with your boss follows you home. The relationship you’re questioning affects how you show up at work. The decision you keep avoiding takes up space in your head. And sometimes you’re staring at a situation thinking, Am I the only person who thinks this is completely insane?

Usually, you’re not.

I created People Untangled because I wanted a place for those conversations.

A place where we can talk honestly about work, relationships, leadership, decisions, change, loss, growth, and all the complicated things that happen when human beings try to navigate life alongside other human beings.

Not because I have all the answers.

Because sometimes the right conversation helps us see the thing we couldn’t see before.

Pull the thread. See where it goes.

YOUR TURN

Got something you’re
trying to untangle?

Work. Relationships. Leadership. Decisions. Life.

If it involves people, there’s probably more to the story.

Bring the question, the situation, or the thing you can’t quite make sense of. Let’s pull the thread.
