What If No One Listens?
STILL UNTANGLING — ISSUE NO. 1
September 16, 2026
That’s the question I didn’t want to say out loud.
I could dress it up and make it sound strategic: Will the podcast find an audience? Is the website strong enough? Am I posting often enough?
But underneath all of that was a much more vulnerable question:
What if I finally say what I’ve been wanting to say—and nobody cares?
I know how to be competent. I know how to walk into a messy situation, find the loose thread, and start pulling. I’ve built an entire career doing that.
But starting People Untangled has required a different kind of confidence.
Not confidence that I have the answers.
Confidence that I’m allowed to ask the questions out loud.
There was a moment recently when I genuinely wondered, Who the hell do I think I am? Why would anyone listen to my podcast—or sign up to receive the thoughts taking up space in my head?
And then it happened.
My first real subscriber.
Not me. Not one of my test email addresses. An actual person who found the website, read what Still Untangling was going to be, and said, “Yes. Send me that.”
It was one person.
Not one hundred. Not one thousand. Nothing anyone would call impressive on an analytics report.
But it landed harder than I expected.
Because one subscriber isn’t just a number. It’s a human being on the other side of the screen who decided they wanted to hear more.
Maybe that’s how most meaningful things begin.
Not with applause. Not with certainty. Not with proof that taking the risk will pay off.
Just one small sign that the thing you were afraid to make visible reached somebody.
I’m still afraid people won’t listen. One subscriber didn’t magically untangle that. I’m still trying to understand the line between wanting to be seen and needing someone else’s permission to take up space.
What I know is that I don’t want to wait until I feel bulletproof. That version of me may never show up.
This is Issue No. 1.
Not a lesson. Not polished advice with a tidy conclusion. Just a note from the middle of it:
I built the thing while doubting whether anyone would come.
And then someone did.
Maybe the question isn’t, “What if no one listens?”
Maybe it’s, “Would I still be proud that I finally said it?”
Today, my answer is yes.
Ask me again in two weeks.
What are you waiting to say, start, or create because you don’t know whether anyone will care? Tell me. I read every message.
Let’s untangle this.
