People Pleasing: The Price of Being Liked

EPISODE 4 | OCTOBER 27, 2026 | 18 MINUTES

You say yes when you want to say no. You make the effort, show up, and try not to disappoint anyone. Then resentment creeps in when others don't do the same.

In this episode, Sandy pulls the thread on people pleasing, the invisible scoreboard we keep in relationships, and why changing our behavior doesn't always change what we believe about ourselves.

Because there's a difference between being needed and being genuinely wanted.

PULL THE THREAD

People pleasing isn't always about being nice. Sometimes it's about what we believe will happen if we disappoint someone.

We say yes. We make ourselves available. We remember what everyone needs. And somewhere along the way, we start keeping score.

But what happens when we stop doing all those things? Do we worry that people won't like us anymore? That we won't be needed? Or that without everything we do for others, we won't know quite where we stand?

That's the thread worth pulling: whether we're showing up because we genuinely want to—or because we're afraid of what might happen if we don't.

STILL UNTANGLING

The conversation doesn't always end when the episode does. Every other Sunday, I share what I'm still questioning, reconsidering, and trying to make sense of.
